If someone has to sit down on the tracks of the coal train and get arrested it should be the grandparents who have been pouring carbon into the atmosphere for half a century.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
If not now, when?

This is an appeal to a small number of boomers — members of the US baby boom generation — to engage in peaceful civil disobedience to push for sensible climate policies in the hope that this can help to avert catastrophe. We call this effort 50 over 50 x 50 because we believe that members of our generation (over 50 years old) have the means and the responsibility to act and that a few dozen of us in each of the 50 states (50 x 50) can tip public opinion in favor of action if we are prepared to organize at the grassroots level, speak out, risk arrest and occasionally spend some time in jail.
We think that there are hundreds, perhaps thousands of boomers across the United States who are alarmed by the imminent threat of runaway climate change and consider the lack of US leadership a profound moral failure. Many of us want to do more but feel isolated and unsure how to proceed. The solution is to find each other, encourage each other, and learn together how to organize attention-grabbing actions, including peaceful civil disobedience.
